AIXDSP Intuition Compressor

In today’s video I take a deep dive into AIX DSP’s Intuition Compressor, a compressor that peels back the layers of mystery surrounding dynamic processing.

This plugin gives visual accurate feedback on every aspect of compression so you can dial in the settings you need perfectly.

Personally one of my favorite key features of the Intuition Compressor is the Lookahead feature which, as the name suggests, looks at the signal coming up and controls any transient by delaying the signal ever so slightly in order to catch the transient the instant it hits. This also allows me to be aggressive and abuse the transient without having to abuse the compressor itself as much.

Another feature that stands out is the Feedforward and Feedback option. For Feedforward compression (which is different than the lookahead) the compressor will read the transient and adjust the compression based on that being a more accurate though harder compression whereas Feedback is when the compressor already begins compressing and then reads the signal, leading to a softer pleasing compression sound.

Now I don’t normally put processing on my master bus but with a master bus setting I wanted to to give it a try using one of Intuition Compressors many presets, its auto gain and soft limiter. Finally I challenge the AIXDSP compressor vs an SSL bus compressor using almost the exact same settings on both. Check out the video to see what I think!
