Artist and songwriter Mandi Perkins Interview

Over the last 30 years of making music I had met an enormous amount of amazing people! Many of these have turned into long lasting working relationships and great friendships. One of these is my good friend Mandi Perkins. Mandi and I met 10 years ago when she reached out to me through Myspace. Social Media revolutionised access for all of us, 10 years ago Myspace helped propel artists such as Colbie Caillat into the limelight and Mandi Perkins a young artist from Canada had cultivated a huge online following.

Mandi and I clicked instantly, we had many shared life experiences and wrote the songs ’Never Enough’ and ‘Everybody Knows’ after long conversations, even though she was extremely young at the time, she wrote lyrics that were reminiscent of my lyricist heroes Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell.

Mandi went to her fan base and raised money to make an Independent Album, we were able to get some of the best musicians and I intruded her to Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic) and Jay Clifford. Ryan and Jay co wrote amazing songs with Mandi, one of those ‘Why Pretend’ opens the Album and is a masterpiece. We cut that song twice using David Allen on drums. The musicians Travis McNabb, Dan Rothchild, David LeVita, Zac Rae and Gabriel Mann all contributed amazing performances to this album.

Mandi recent got her album back from Sony, today, May 12th, she rereleased it on her own label. Check out the album, it’s one of my favourite albums I’ve ever made and please let me know what you think!

I recently interviewed Mandi and we had an great time talking all things music. She’s an amazing talent!

Have a marvellous time recording and mixing,

Warren
