A War Of Inches – Consistent Mixing with Marc Daniel Nelson

In this episode of MakeMineMusic, Marc Daniel Nelson goes all in on the importance of consistency in mixing.

With mixing, you have to be consistent in all genres, in all songs on an album – it is one of the elements that make a great mixer.

The biggest way to be consistent is to practice! You want to keep yourself in the mindset that it is okay to fail and to not ‘nail’ the project you’re working on, but that you will get it next time.

The best way to know where you’re at is to take your time, mix the song and then take a step back. Once you’ve done that, mix the song again! The next time you mix the song you will be in a completely different mindset than the first time you mixed it, so you can compare the two. You will make influential changes that will be dependent on how you slept, what you ate, what is going on in your life, etc.

When you do this, you will be able to hear the consistencies between the two mixes and be able to easily identify elements that make your music identifiable to you.
