Dealing with Pressure and Anxiety | FAQ Friday

Anxiety & Pressure

We have a lot of very wonderful questions this week beginning with, “Do you have any advice on how to cope under pressure and perhaps anxiety?”

We got a few other questions similar to this one and this topic is very close to me. I think this is something important to talk about!

So, let’s talk about dealing with pressure and anxiety when it comes to music (and life!)

It’s difficult because I have a family, a mortgage, and everything that comes with it. It’s expensive to live in LA and I’m sure many of you live in an expensive city or expensive parts of the world as well. That alone results in an extreme amount of pressure.

When I was on my own making music (before the family, mortgage, etc), the pressure was just as bad. When you’re on your own the pressure is self-imposed. I’ve always wanted to make amazing music and push myself to do and be better!

I want clients that walk through my door with their acoustic guitars, the one’s that are ready to work through their ideas with me, to ultimately walk away feeling really really happy!

Last night our artist Luke and his father were leaving and said that the experience they had with us was the best ever. They felt like we connected with them and were able to go through his lyrics and melody ideas effectively. That’s the best thing I could ever hear. It’s really reaffirming for an artist to tell you things like that!

I think for me in life I want everyone that I work with, work for, or work around, to share in that feeling. It’s not easy to do, but those moments remove a lot of stress and anxiety.

This Youtube channel is not just here to make money. It’s here to help other people. It’s here to share these kinds of experiences.

We’re always producing, engineering, and mixing around 4 different albums at any one time, and I love it. So, if you love what you do and you care about what you do, that pressure is always going to be there, regardless of how much debt you may or may not have.

The stress will always be there, but that’s what drives me. The anxiety and pressure pushes me every single day to get up in the morning and do better than I did yesterday! If you can get through the day, do your job, interact with people and give them a positive experience while improving their music and their abilities- you have done an amazing job and you will wake up the next day a better person for it.

Even if you’re 16 years old making music with a friend and you feel under pressure, it’s because you care and you actually want to make great music.

I don’t understand those people who are drifting through life with no cares and everything is great. I don’t relate to them. I relate to people who get up every day and feel the pressure and the anxiety to do something great and to communicate with people.

There’s a big correlation to the people you admire and to their success.

So, if you’re feeling the pressure and anxiety, it’s because you care. Get through it! Get through another day and you will be stronger because of it. Take those learned skills and pass them on to others.
