Interview with Wes Dooley of AEA Microphones

Hello Lovely People!

At NAMM this year we spoke with the founder of AEA microphones, Wes Dooley, who has an immense knowledge of ribbon microphones. When the microphone division of RCA was permanently shut down in 1976, Wes found his place in music history by becoming the go to guy for servicing the large number of RCA microphones still in use.

Legendary musicians love Wes’ AEA Mics. Les Paul said the 44 was the greatest mic ever made, Eddie Van Halen said that only the 44 makes the 5150 sound the same as it does in the room.  Jack White takes 5 AEA KU4 microphones on tour when we he does an acoustic show.

Wes Explains how he has learned to tune his microphones to capture sound with a frequency response up to 40kHz. This is what makes his microphones sound so accurate when recording.  He gives us a tour and detailed explanation of all of the amazing microphones in the AEA line, and explains the technology behind his AEA RPQ microphone preamps.

Wes is a wonderful guy and makes wonderful microphones. His AEA 44 is the mic I use on my piano every single day. Please enjoy watching the interview!

Thank you ever so much for watching the video! I hope you enjoyed getting to learn a little more about the great Wes Dooley and his Amazing microphones!

Have a marvellous time recording and mixing,

Warren
