Interview with Garth Richardson: Rage Against the Machine, Ozzy Osbourne

Garth Richardson

Garth “GGGarth” Richardson is a highly successful Canadian music producer and engineer. GGGarth has worked with some of the biggest artists in rock music, including Rage Against the Machine, Ozzy Ozbourne, Alice Cooper, Biffy Clyro, Rise Against, Mudvayne, Chevelle, Trapt, Atreyu, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Gallows, and Taylor Swift. He also co-founded the Nimbus School of Recording Arts in Vancouver with Bob Ezrin, Kevin Williams, and Diane Lamb.

Perhaps most notably, GGGarth produced and engineered Rage Against the Machine’s self-titled debut album. The record earned him a GRAMMY nomination for his engineering work and secured his place among the world’s top record producers.

Garth’s father, Jack Richardson C.M., was a legendary music producer himself whose own credits include Alice Cooper, Poco, Badfinger, and The Guess Who. Thus, Garth got his start in the music industry at a very young age working in his father’s studio. GGGarth would go on to be mentored by industry giants, learning music production and audio engineering from producers like Bob Ezrin, Brian Christian, and of course his own father.

In 2011, Garth won a Juno Award for Single of the Year for his involvement as co-producer of K’Naan’s “Wavin’ Flag” project with Young Artists for Haiti. The song helped raise over $2 million for disaster relief and was also produced by Bob Ezrin and Mike Fraser.

Over the course of his career, Garth has been nominated for multiple Juno awards. He’s also received many nominations for the Jack Richardson Producer of the Year Award, which is especially significant because it’s named in honor of his father.

GGGarth Richardson currently owns The Farm Studios, and continues to be a highly sought after music producer. He proudly endorses Universal Audio products for their superior conversion and analogue emulated plugins.
