The Jason LaRocca Interview (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Icarus, Handmaid’s Tale)

Jason LaRocca, a rocker-turned-engineer, was once The Briggs’ lead guitarist and vocalist. The Los Angeles native is known now as a full-fledged producer and recording engineer since the age of 18.

It was an amazing time getting to speak with Jason and chat about his engineering process, the plugins he uses, and overall the defaults that he is always using when mixing tracks.

He talks about the awesome career he’s had from his rocker days to his days with producing television scores.

Jason has recorded and mixed music for a variety of high-profile films, including Marvel’s “Morbius,” “Bad Boys for Life,” “Paddington,” “Aquaman,” “The Harder They Fall,” “The Accountant,” “Coming to America 2,” “Godzilla: King of Monsters,” and the 2018 Oscar-winning documentary “Icarus.” He has also mixed the music for popular video games, including “Fortnite,” “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold. 

In addition to his work on films, Jason has contributed significantly to the recording and mixing of television music. His television work includes the enduring hit fantasy series “Once Upon A Time”, “Godfather of Harlem,” “Black Mirror,” “American Crime Story,” “Handmaid’s Tale,” the prize-winning miniseries “Little Fires Everywhere,” FOX’s top drama “The Cleaning Lady,” the most-watched HBO Max debut “The Nevers,” and the epic Amazon series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.”

Top recording artists like Jay-Z, CeeLo Green, Fiona Apple, Schoolboy Q, and Serj Tankian of System of a Down have used Jason’s services for recording and mixing as well.
