Lewitt Project 1040

Today, we are doing something very exciting: we are testing out Lewitt Project 1040! Project 1040 is Lewitt designing a brand new microphone with the help of us, the customers! At the moment, it is just a prototype, so it is 3D printed for now, but eventually it will be metal like the 940 is.

There are a couple of features that are borrowed from the 940. One of these is the FET to tube sound knob. This knob has been a game-changer for me, and one of my favorite ways to use this is if I am recording a singer, I will use the tube side to record the lead vocals, then flip over to the FET side for the backgrounds, as it gives just enough separation between the two. The other borrowed feature is the completely adjustable polar pattern. Here, you have a cardioid, hyper-cardioid, super-cardioid, and basically everything you could possibly want.

What is new and exciting about this new project, is that it will also have 4 additional settings: clear, warm, saturated, and dark. With these settings you can really change up the sound of the microphone and get a wide variety of results with just one mic. The main idea of this project is to come out and give you a microphone that can produce the sound of several microphones, so you can get all the different sounds you are looking for!

Today, I am going to be recording vocals and acoustic guitar for a song using each of the 4 settings of Lewitt Project 1040 so you can hear what each of them sound like. As this is just a prototype, there are still changes being made to the sounds, so the final model may sound different than the one you will hear. For example, it will likely have more saturation than you hear here, and a stronger difference between settings like warm and dark.
