Mixing Vocals with Joe Carrell

In today’s video Joe Carrell shows us how he mixes vocals, using a combination of Multiband compression to control errant frequencies, EQ and traditional compression to gentle shape the vocal sound.

This video is an excerpt from Joe’s new course, Mixing Country Rock which currently is at the extremely low price of $27 for an over Three and a half hour Mixing course with full multi tracks!
Joe speaks about monitoring vocals at a low level to hear the midrange detail between multiple instruments. He uses a McDSP 404 Multiband compressor to tame errant frequencies, he then adds some Kirchoff EQ after taming the high end.

There are delay and modulation tips and tricks too! Check out this Free great vocal mixing video with Joe Carrell!

He shows us a mix trick where he brings the vocal down so it’s just a little too quiet and then he adds a small amount of parallel compression to add volume and energy to the vocal.
Mixing Vocals of any genre is an art form, and inarguably the most important thing in a great mix! Our ears always naturally gravitate to the human voice, so nailing the vocal sound, making it compelling, is of the utmost importance!

The artist in today’s vocal mixing video is Kayley Bishop, (a finalist on The Voice) and the band are all seasoned Nashville session players.

Have a marvellous time recording and mixing,

Warren

P.S. Of course, a reminder, all multitracks are included with this course, so you can mix it yourself.
It’s an amazing song!
