Marc Reverb Final750

Marc Daniel Nelson, a Grammy-nominated music producer, is joining us again to bring you another tutorial. Today, he will be talking about reverbs.

Over the course of his career, Marc has worked with many amazing artists, including Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillat, Eric Burdon, Fleetwood Mac, Rusted Root, and many more! He has also produced music for a number of films, including Blade Runner, Wild Horses, Point Break, Father Figures, and The Vietnam War.

In today’s video, Marc will be showing us some of his favorite reverbs. There are many different types of reverbs out there, and Marc says that he likes to go after the specific footprints or thumbprints or different reverbs, and if I can get that, then I can get the listeners to enjoy it, and emotionally connect to it. There are different reverbs for different sources that can create an emotional connection. When Marc is mixing, he usually references the style, the genre, or a specific track that contains the sound he wants to create in his mix, and tries to duplicate it.

Marc has had people asking what his favorite presets are, and that got him thinking about how he could duplicate them in the box. There has been over 5 decades of different kinds of reverbs, and in the past, it has been really difficult to duplicate them in the box, but lately they have been getting closer and closer, and there have been a few that he feels have nailed it! Because of this, Marc is able to show us how to achieve his favorite reverb sounds completely in the box. Using a Jason Mraz track, Netflix movie score, and a solo drum section, Marc will show us exactly how he achieves these reverb sounds. While working with these three different sounds, Marc will explain exactly what does what, and what he chose in order to create the sound that he did.
