The iZotope RX8 is a fantastic plugin, which we tried out when it was released a couple of months ago. Today, we have our good friends Kristian Kohle and Glenn Fricker with us, and they have been using the RX8 as well. We have all tried this fantastic plugin out individually, so we thought we would get together and share our experiences.

Glenn wanted to drive home how well this plugin really works when it comes to denoising your tracks, so he actually recorded his video in the machine room in my studio! The power supply for our SSL console is very noisy, but with this plugin, Glenn was able to remove almost all the noise from the tracks, and still have a useable track afterwards! Glenn says that iZotope has made it so that you can take an awful lot of noise out of your signal, and still get most of what you are trying to save, without too much artifacting, which is huge. This is a great plugin for times when you are recording on location, like at a trade show, event, or someone else’s studio.
Kristian Koehler is using this plugin more and more on guitars because nowadays many guitarists are recording their parts at home, and only use a real studio for reamping. When recording at home, people don’t always realize how noisy they are, but once you send those DI tracks through a screaming high gain amp, you hear it. Because of this, sometimes Kristian gets some really horrible, distorted, noisy tracks, and RX8 has saved him countless times.
He gets some DI tracks that are clipped or noisy, and in the past, those tracks would have been unusable, and he would have had to ask the person to re-record, which can be very costly in terms of money and time. The RX8 is so effective in saving audio, that he can now use those tracks that would have been unusable in the past.
For us, this is a plugin that we use every single day! When you are recording at other people’s studios or at events, you can’t always control the background noise, so this plugin can really save your recording!
