Podcast #26 Rob Schnapf Interview

Hi Friends,

In today´s podcast I´m interviewing the great Rob Schnapf. Rob is an incredible producer who has worked in the music industry for decades. His credits include: Beck, Toadies, Tokyo Police Club, Elliot Smith, and lots other other influential bands and artists.

This interview was recorded shortly after David Bowie died. The death of one of the greatest artists of our time led us to an in-depth conversation about the importance of art and what it means to be a true artist.

Rob is telling us the story of how he recorded Beck´s first album Mellow Gold on a very minimal setup. Mellow Gold
went on to become one of the most influential albums of the 90s. I absolutely love this story, because it shows once again that creativity, great songs and great performances are the key.
– Gear is secondary.

We´re also discussing techniques for recording acoustic guitar and Rob walks us through the amazing collection of guitars and mixing hardware he has acquired over the years. (Just because gear is secondary doesn´t mean we don´t appreciate and love it! ;-))

I hope you enjoy the podcast. Please let me know what you think in the comments below.
