Warren Sokol is a professional mastering engineer that works at United Mastering in Los Angeles. Sokol has worked on hundreds of albums for artists such as The Band Perry, Imagine Dragons, Lana Del Ray, The Moody Blues, Public Enemy, Method Man and the TV show The Voice. Sokol was also highly involved in the beginning of the Mastered For iTunes process, helping with workflow and setting standards for MFiT audio.
One of the many things that Warren does is audio cleanup and noise reduction for the projects he works on. If you’re working on interviews or podcasts, where the only audio is a voice or voices, the audio needs to be clean and free of distractions. Things like air conditioner hum, electrical buzzes, annoying pops & ticks, or mouth noises can really take away from the relate ability of the audio.
In today’s video I have a 20 minute excerpt from Warren’s new course where he shows you how to remove the pops and ticks from an old interview. Being good at noise reduction requires you to get rid of the noises that you don’t want and still keep the audio that you do want.
