What Does Gluing Your Mix Together Mean? FAQ Friday

I met Rick Beato a few years ago when he worked at my old studio. Rick is amazing songwriter and was hired during this session to help the band write their songs. Which I think answers a question that I get all the time from aspiring producers. “Do you have to be a musician to be a successful producer?”

The answer is no, but if you look at someone like Rick Beato as your example, then it’s also obvious that it is indeed very helpful that a producer also be a musician.

Rick is also a fearless producer and during that session would commit to sounds very early, even printing the top and bottom snare blended together as one track! Rick has an amazing understanding of music, and his made videos on perfect pitch, tuning drums, modes and scales, compression tips, and how to practice.

In his most recent video, he has the question, “Is Apple Done?” It’s very interesting to watch as he goes through the tens of thousands of dollars of apple products that he has owned over the years and compares the current Apple with the old Apple that many of us creatives fell in love with!

Rick is a lovely guy and when we talked with him in Nashville he was accompanied by his son Dylan who has also been in several of his youtube videos. Dylan has perfect pitch, and it’s amazing to see him call out chords almost instantly as Rick plays them on the piano.
