We recently got to visit wonderful Nashville, TN and attend the Summer NAMM show! It was a great trip and we talked to so many gear manufacturers, musicians, producers and engineers. The second day that we attended the show we visited with Teegarden Audio, Nanologue Audio, Tape Op Magazine, Little Labs and Augspurger Speakers.
The first stop of the morning was spend talking to Bret Teegarden of Teegarden Audio. Bret is a recording engineer and producer that has work on multiple Dove and Grammy award winning projects over the last 27 years. In 2013 he formed Teegarden Audio with a desire to manufacture high quality audio electronics. His Magic series preamps are all class “A” and are not a clone, but rather are his own unique design.
We moved on to visit with the wonderful Larry Crane of Tape Op Magazine. If you’ve never heard pf Tape Op before, stop what you’re doing and go to their website right now. Tape Op was started in 1996 and it is a free digital magazine and print magazine to folks that live in the U.S. It’s got a very dedicated following by folks in the recording industry including Joe Chiccarelli. If you’re serious about recording music, you should check it out. It’s free to subscribe and contains a wealth of knowledge within it’s pages.
After that we stopped in and talked to the amazing people at Nanolog Audio. Nanolog are the makers of the Wavefunction Overdrive pedal, a pedal that employs the use of their Nanolog devices to create over similar to a Ge or Si clipping diode, and yet the dynamic range is greater. It was an incredible pedal to demo, and they had a 1963 Strat and a ’65 Deluxe Reverb to play through!
We then stopped by the Little Labs booth and talked to owner Jonathon Little about his amazing headphone amplifier the Monotor. The Monotor has several features that are standard on most high end headphone amps, multiple outputs for more than one headphone, gain control and the ability to listen in mono. But what makes the Monotor unique is its extensive mono monitoring capability: left plus right, left, right, and even left minus right, for phase check and digital compressed audio file artifact analysis.
Last, we visited with the lovely Dave Malekpour from Augspurger Speakers. Augspurger makes some of the nicest “main” speakers that are on the market and are in many of the most amazing studios around the world. You can find Augspurgers in Snoop Dog’s studio, and my very good friend Bob Horn has them in Echobar Studios in Hollywood, CA. “All Augspurger systems are hand-built by master craftsmen in Hanover, MA, USA, using only the finest materials. Every system is constructed, assembled, wired and tested, one at a time.”
