While we were in Nashville, we had a chance to talk with the incredibly talented Richard Dodd! The interview took place at Blackbird Studios in Studio D, where we were having our Produce Like A Pro Academy Master Class. Believe it or not, this is the first time Richard and I had met in person even though we’ve worked together in the past.
Richard Dodd is a Grammy award-winning recording, mixing and mastering engineer, as well as a music producer, who has been working in the industry for over four decades. And it shows – his expansive list of credits is as long as it is impressive. His discography showcases a knack for creating real and authentic music that often reaches untouchable heights of success, both commercially and on a personal level.
Since the early 1970s, Richard has been recording hits and working with legends. He has proven time and time again that he has an ear for music and the skills to craft and create a hit, through his work with artists such as Boz Scaggs, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, The Travelling Wilburys, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey, Greenday, Wilco and Freddie Mercury, to name just a few.
Richard has worked with artists from a variety of backgrounds and genres, showcasing his depth and wide range. From Indie artists like Iron and Wine, to pop superstars like Taylor Swift, to country legends like Jason Aldean, for whom Richard has mastered 13 number one singles, as well as all of his platinum albums.
Richard has won a total of five Grammy awards, his first being presented to him in 1995, in which he won the Best Engineer Grammy Award for his work on Tom Petty’s “Wildflowers”. In 2001 he won Best Blues Album for his work on Delbert McClinton’s “Nothing Personal”, and in 2006 he received three Grammys, including Best Country Album, Album of the Year and Record of the Year, for the Dixie Chicks’ “Taking The Long Way”.
His dedication to his craft shines through with each and every song he masters, and the long-lasting relationships he forges with songwriters and musicians ensures that they keep coming back to him time and time again. Richard has built a community of artists that appreciate and value his hard work and exceptional craftsmanship.
