Want to Mix Professionally? | FAQ Friday

Do you want to Mix Professionally-1

As always we have a few great questions in this week’s FAQ Friday and a giveaway from Tactical Headsets!

The lovely people over at Tactical Headsets have sent us 3 pairs of earbuds to giveaway.

They aren’t that expensive but what is interesting about them is that they were used in a military application. They come with a couple different sets of silicone plugs that provide either 26db noise reduction for the yellow and red ones or 15db for the transparent ones.

They are tiny but really good! they have a great bass response and sound a lot more expensive than they are. – I’m flying to China tomorrow and I’m going to take these with me.

Thank you Tactical headsets for sending these three pairs to us to giveaway.

If they are inexpensive and sound good I’m all for it, let’s keep supporting companies that make good sounding and inexpensive products!

Now let’s jump right into today’s featured question! “What advice would you give to people who want to mix professionally or those who want to have a recording studio?

I don’t think I would give any advice about gear because there are so many questions that you can ask when comparing different cables or cables with certain mics or if you need a console or not. – Tons of those questions.

To start I would say get yourself out there, it doesn’t matter if you have a laptop, an ID14 and a pair of headphones. Andrew Scheps has proved time and time again that you can mix on headphones.

Some of the best mixes of all time were mixed on small setups with small speakers of headphones. It is possible, it just takes talent and a lot of acquired knowledge. – You can get there though!

What is the bit you need to do?

You need to market yourself, Andrew and I came up in a time (not massively long time ago) that we got credits. You used to get gold and platinum records by making albums and when the albums become successful you add it to your credit list.

Ultimately it’s difficult now because you don’t have that stepping stone.
