In my teenage years I was obsessed with learning the scales and playing style of Jazz guitarists Joe Pass\u00a0and\u00a0Howard Roberts and would practice for years.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Keyboardist, Jazz\u00a0Composer and Producer Jeff Lorber<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">In this episode, we have the pleasure of talking to Jeff Lorber at his studio JHL\u00a0Sound.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Jeff is a phenomenal piano player and jazz composer, who studied under the same teacher as\u00a0Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and Keith Jarrett.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">In addition to\u00a0his extensive solo career counting over a dozen albums, he has also done session work\u00a0with major producers and artists such as\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">Clive Davis, Richard Perry, The System, Herb Alpert, Dave Koz, Eric Ben\u00e9t, and Laura Branigan.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Jeff&#8217;s musical style consists of a\u00a0unique\u00a0mix of R&amp;B, Fusion Jazz, Funk and Blues. What I personally love about his playing is that additionally to his great taste in melody and harmonies, he has an outstanding feel for rhythm.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Jeff tells us how he first got started in music, and\u00a0about his big breakthrough in the industry: Even though he was a highly trained Berklee graduate, he didn&#8217;t feel entitled.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Instead, he got out of his way to help out in studios and do whatever he could to hone his craft and\u00a0broaden his skill set.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">That&#8217;s how he built strong connections in the industry and was recognized: For his passion, hard work and dedication, not by chance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Jeff takes us through his studio, and shows us his\u00a0Georg Martin modified SSL console and his beautiful\u00a0collection of vintage keyboards and synthesizers.
