He has scored numerous AAA and indie titles, including<em>\u00a0Star Wars: First Assault, Call of Duty: WWII, Mortal Kombat 11, Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire,\u00a0Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris,\u00a0Dead Island 2,\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/anewthegame.com\">Anew: The Distant Light<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0His work has gone on to win numerous awards and nominations from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.audiogang.org\">Game Audio Network Guild<\/a> (GANG) and\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.interactive.org\">Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences<\/a> (who hosts the D.I.C.E. Summit).<\/p>\n<p>As an artist, Wilbert intends to balance modern production with classic construction, creating contemporary soundscapes juxtaposed with traditional orchestrations.<\/p>\n<h5>Early Life and Career<\/h5>\n<p>Wilbert grew up in Philadelphia where he started playing piano at age four. It wasn&#8217;t until high school when he took an interest in cinematic storytelling through video games as a medium. Around the time, he was particularly influenced by Japanese video game and anime soundtracks, like\u00a0Nobuo Uematsu&#8217;s and Hitoshi Sakimoto&#8217;s music for the <i>Final Fantasy<\/i> series and Yoko Kanno&#8217;s music for <i>Cowboy Bebop<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Wilbert pursued a BA in music at Yale University, studying with composition faculty Kathryn Alexander and Matthew Suttor.<\/p>\n<p>In 2008, he became a staff composer at LucasArts, where he scored several\u00a0<i>Star Wars<\/i>\u00a0games and was music editor on different titles. He&#8217;s also highly influenced by classical music: for example, his <i>Call of Duty<\/i> score was influenced by Claude Vivier&#8217;s &#8220;Zipangu,&#8221; Toru Takemitsu&#8217;s &#8220;Requiem for String Orchestra,&#8221; and Krzysztof Penderecki&#8217;s &#8220;Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wilbert co-owns a successful music software company.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The same year he joined the LucasArts team, Wilbert founded a sound development company called <a href=\"https:\/\/impactsoundworks.com\">Impact Soundworks<\/a>\u00a0with fellow composer Andrew Aversa. At that time, there were a handful of major virtual instrument companies, but not many were creating affordable and flexible libraries featuring experimental sounds.<\/p>\n<p>There have always been lots of high quality orchestral sounds, but more unusual instruments typically weren&#8217;t sampled with much care. Impact Soundworks&#8217;s first release were &#8220;Impact: Steel&#8221;\u2014metal objects played as percussion\u2014and &#8220;Sitar Nation&#8221; featuring instruments from North India.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the team has striven to cater to the needs of modern composers who require <a href=\"https:\/\/producelikeapro.com\/blog\/free-drum-samples-for-your-collection\/\">samples that are easy-to-use<\/a> but also distinctive and inspired. Impact Soundworks&#8217;s samples are widely used in film and game composers and sound designers.<\/p>\n<h5>Accolades<\/h5>\n<p>Wilbert works mostly in the video game music industry, but he also gives back as an active participant in academic music programs. He has recently served as visiting faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music from 2018-2019 in the Department of Technology and Applied Composition, and has guest lectured at Yale and the University of Rochester.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, he completed a solo carillon commission, <i>Island Stones<\/i>, for the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre &amp; Dance.
