Whether it is Rock, Fusion, Jazz or World, Simon applies the same precision and intensity to his drumming, which is never lacking in emotion and feel.<\/p>\n<p>Simon\u2019s professional musical career began at the early age of twelve, performing and recording with his father&#8217;s, Sid Phillips, Dixieland band until he turned sixteen when he joined the London production of the musical \u201cJesus Christ Superstar\u201d. Simon soon became one of London\u2019s most celebrated session drummers. In his early twenties he was well on his way to having a musical career nothing short of brilliance. To date he has toured and recorded with many bands and artists, including: Mick Jagger, The Who, Jeff Beck, Jack Bruce, Peter Gabriel, Joe Satriani, Tears for Fears, Judas Priest, Roxy Music, Michael Schenker, Nik Kershaw, Al DiMeola, 801, Pete Townshend, Robert Palmer, Stanley Clarke, The Pretenders, Whitesnake and Dave Gilmore&#8230; to name but a few.<\/p>\n<p>Expanding his career from drumming to composing, Simon recorded his first solo album \u201cProtocol\u201d in 1988, followed by a live album, \u201cForce Majeure\u201d, in 1992.<\/p>\n<p>During that year he got a call to join Toto on their Kingdom Of Desire tour of the World and this was the start of a 21 year collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>He recorded his third solo album, \u201cSymbiosis\u201d, in 1995 and \u201cAnother Lifetime\u201d in 1997. He formed his own band and toured Europe and Japan. \u201cOut of the Blue\u201d, a live album, followed in 1998 and in 1999 another complete change of style took place and resulted in \u201cVantage Point\u201d, which is a pure, straight ahead jazz album in collaboration with pianist Jeff Babko.<\/p>\n<p>He recorded his third solo album, \u201cSymbiosis\u201d, in 1995 and \u201cAnother Lifetime\u201d in 1997. He formed his own band and toured Europe and Japan. \u201cOut of the Blue\u201d, a live album, followed in 1998 and in 1999 another complete change of style took place and resulted in \u201cVantage Point\u201d, which is a pure, straight ahead jazz album in collaboration with pianist Jeff Babko.<\/p>\n<p>Yet another expansion to Simon\u2019s musical career is producing and engineering, which he first started back in England with British composer Mike Oldfield, working on three albums with him. Aside from his solo projects, Simon also co-produced Toto\u2019s \u201cTambu\u201d in 1995, followed by \u201cMindfields\u201d in 1998 and adding engineering duties to co-produce \u201cThrough the Looking Glass\u201d in 2002 and \u201cFalling In Between\u201d in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>After 3 years of busy touring with Toto to promote \u201cFalling In Between\u201d it was time for Toto to take a break and an opportunity for Simon to re-form his solo band for a tour of Japan.<\/p>\n<p>In 2009 he partnered up with long time associate and friend, Philippe Saisse and together with Pino Palladino formed PSP. A live CD and an EP was produced and tours of Europe and Japan in 2011 &amp; 2012.<\/p>\n<p>In 2010 he joined Michael Schenker for a short tour of Japan \u2013 the first time playing with Michael since the recording of the Michael Schenker Group in 1980. Also that year he performed with Trilok Gurtu and the NDR Big Band for an amazing project resulting in the \u201c21 Spices\u201d CD \u2013 a fusion of Indian, World and Jazz music.<\/p>\n<p>As if not busy enough in 2010 Simon was approached by Japanese virtuoso pianist Hiromi to form \u201cThe Trio Project\u201d together with bass legend Anthony Jackson. The trio has recorded four CDs, \u201cVoice\u201d, \u201cMove\u201d, \u201cAlive\u201d and \u201cSpark\u201d. The trio has been touring throughout the World these last 6 years.<\/p>\n<p>25 years after his first solo recording, Simon released \u201cProtocol II\u201d featuring Andy Timmons (Gtr), Steve Weingart (Keys) and Ernest Tibbs (Bass).
