His production credits include\u00a0Magazine&#8217;s\u00a0Real Life\u00a0(1978),\u00a0XTC&#8217;s\u00a0White Music\u00a0(1978) and\u00a0Dukes of Stratosphear&#8217;s\u00a025 O&#8217;Clock\u00a0(1985),\u00a0the Stone Roses&#8217;\u00a0The Stone Roses\u00a0(1989),\u00a0Radiohead&#8217;s\u00a0The Bends\u00a0(1995),\u00a0Cast&#8217;s\u00a0All Change\u00a0(1995),\u00a0Muse&#8217;s\u00a0Origin of Symmetry (2001) and the\u00a0Levellers&#8217;\u00a0We the Collective\u00a0(2018).<\/p>\n<p>Leckie began work at\u00a0Abbey Road Studios\u00a0on 15 February 1970 as a tape operator, later graduating to balance engineer and record producer.\u00a0During his early career he worked as a tape operator with artists such as\u00a0George Harrison\u00a0(All Things Must Pass),\u00a0John Lennon\u00a0(John Lennon\/Plastic Ono Band)\u00a0and\u00a0Syd Barrett\u00a0(Barrett). He moved up to the desk to be balance engineer for\u00a0Pink Floyd\u00a0(Meddle\u00a0and\u00a0Wish You Were Here), for\u00a0Mott The Hoople&#8217;s album\u00a0Mott\u00a0and\u00a0Paul McCartney and Wings&#8217;\u00a0Red Rose Speedway\u00a0and the single &#8220;Hi, Hi, Hi&#8221;. Other engineering sessions at Abbey Road at this time were with\u00a0Roy Harper,\u00a0Soft Machine,\u00a0Sammy Hagar,\u00a0Jack Rieley&#8217;s\u00a0Western Justice\u00a0album and the last recordings with\u00a0Syd Barrett.<\/p>\n<p>His first job as producer was\u00a0Be-Bop Deluxe&#8217;s third album\u00a0Sunburst Finish, a collaboration which continued with\u00a0Modern Music,\u00a0Live! In The Air Age\u00a0and\u00a0Drastic Plastic.\u00a0In 1977 Leckie produced\u00a0The Adverts\u2019\u00a0Crossing the Red Sea with The Adverts,\u00a0Magazine\u2019s\u00a0Real Life, and\u00a0Doctors of Madness\u2019\u00a0Figments of Emancipation.<\/p>\n<p>Leckie left Abbey Road in 1978 and produced albums for\u00a0Simple Minds\u00a0(Life in a Day,\u00a0Real to Real Cacophony\u00a0and\u00a0Empires and Dance).\u00a0For\u00a0Be-Bop Deluxe\u00a0founder\u00a0Bill Nelson, he produced the\u00a0Red Noise\u00a0album\u00a0Sound on Sound\u00a0and Nelson&#8217;s subsequent solo album\u00a0Quit Dreaming And Get On The Beam\u00a0(the latter unreleased until 1981).\u00a0Leckie recorded the d\u00e9but single,\u00a0Public Image\u00a0for\u00a0Public Image Ltd\u00a0and produced\u00a0The Human League\u2019s\u00a0Holiday 80\u00a0EP. Leckie&#8217;s work with\u00a0XTC\u00a0included producing their debut\u00a03D\u00a0single and EP, and first two studio albums,\u00a0White Music\u00a0and\u00a0Go 2.\u00a0He went on to produce\u00a025 O&#8217;Clock\u00a0and\u00a0Psonic Psunspot, which XTC issued under the pseudonym\u00a0The Dukes of Stratosphear\u00a0in the mid 1980s.<\/p>\n<p>In 1989 Leckie produced\u00a0The Stone Roses&#8217; debut album\u00a0The Stone Roses.\u00a0The album was voted the best record of all time on a music poll taken by\u00a0BBC Radio 6 Music\u00a0and features as Number 1 on\u00a0the Observer Music Monthly\u2019s June 2004 \u201c100 Greatest British Albums\u201d. Some months later he produced and mixed their single &#8220;Fools Gold&#8221;, which charted at No. 4 in the\u00a0UK Singles Chart,\u00a0and in early 1990 he produced and mixed the single &#8220;One Love&#8221; which also charted at no. 4 in UK.
