It garnered immediate critical acclaim and established Mat as an extremely versatile artist who could produce electronic music of all types and genres.\u00a0Dancing Astronaut\u00a0called it &#8220;an inspiring and timeless artistic debut&#8221;.\u00a0The album went on to be nominated for a\u00a0Grammy Award\u00a0for\u00a0Best Dance\/Electronic Album.<\/p>\n<p>On 25 March 2016, Mat Zo released his second studio album titled\u00a0Self Assemble, which he speculated to be his &#8220;farewell to the [EDM] industry&#8221; due to his disenchantment with the\u00a0EDM\u00a0scene as of 2015. &#8220;This album is sort of my last send-off before I go and do other things in life. It feels like I\u2019m ready to go and venture off into other realms,&#8221; stated Mat Zo to\u00a0Billboard.\u00a0As of January 2017, Mat Zo appeared to have changed his mind about retiring due to a &#8220;renewed sense of vigor and passion&#8221;,\u00a0and continues to tour and produce with his main name in addition to two new collectives; Kill The Zo with\u00a0Kill The Noise\u00a0and The Mary Nixons with\u00a0The Knocks.<\/p>\n<p>His earlier drum and bass productions are under the pseudonym MRSA on\u00a0Hospital Records. He also has several unreleased tracks under the MRSA moniker playable through his Myspace account.\u00a0Mat has also continued to produce occasional drum and bass releases under his current name, such as &#8220;Games&#8221; for\u00a0UKF10\u00a0and &#8220;Blessed Be Thy Name&#8221; for\u00a0This Is MAD TOO.<\/p>\n<p>Mat Zo revealed through a\u00a0Reddit\u00a0&#8220;Ask-Me-Anything&#8221; on 6 July 2018 that he is currently working on a third studio album.\u00a0The album is soon to release, having already been previewed in a full album set played at Mat Zo &amp; Friends A\u00a0Minecraft\u00a0Party.He returned to Anjunabeats in the same year with the release of his\u00a0No Words\u00a0EP, ending his five year hiatus from the label.\u00a0Mat Zo&#8217;s &#8220;classic&#8221; trance and progressive sound within the EP were praised by critics. Mat Zo released his third album,\u00a0Illusion of Depth, through Anjunabeats in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Following the establishment of his own label Mad Zoo in August 2014,\u00a0Mat Zo has focused his efforts onto expanding his label and creating a platform for upcoming artists.
