He also gets into a full mix breakdown, where you get to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2mQ8-B9-whE\">witness<\/a> his unique approach to mixing.<\/p>\n<p>First, he sits down with Audilia to get a little insight and background on the inspiration for the song.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wanted to create something about how people can grow&#8230;from life&#8217;s challenges&#8230;and what you can learn from these situations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Audilia relates \u2013 explaining that she had a difficult year before recording the song; and wanted to capture her learnings from the experience, in a positive way.<\/p>\n<p>The first word in the title of her song, &#8220;kintsugi&#8221;, refers to the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery, focusing on the most damaged parts and creating something new, beautiful, and unique.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You get to heal without doing it, in a negative way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Audilia says.<\/p>\n<p>They also dive into how their working relationship began, and Audilia&#8217;s musical background \u2013 it&#8217;s an interesting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2mQ8-B9-whE\">watch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Mixing Setup<\/h2>\n<p>Next, Ady shares his desk setup with us. First the speakers, two <a href=\"https:\/\/sweetwater.sjv.io\/21ZL0G\">Kali Audio IN-8 V 2&#8217;s<\/a>, &#8220;They allow me to get a wider image.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s also using a subwoofer, (also Kali) Watts 6.2 Sub, of which Ady states,<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The bass is huge.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And that, on his mixes, he uses them to &#8220;feel the music&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>His headphones (which he starts every mix on), the <a href=\"https:\/\/olloaudio.com\/products\/s5x-1-1-reference-headphones?variant=48389333582161&amp;utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=cpc&amp;utm_campaign=OLLO_Hot_WW_Sales_Search_Branded_30-04-2024&amp;utm_content=165388017481&amp;utm_term=ollo%20s5x&amp;utm_medium=ppc&amp;utm_term=ollo%20s5x&amp;utm_source=adwords&amp;utm_campaign=OLLO+%7C+Hot+%7C+WW+%7C+Sales+%7C+CBO+%7C+Google+-+Branded+%7C+01-05-2024&amp;hsa_kw=ollo%20s5x&amp;hsa_acc=4346515314&amp;hsa_ad=698111143597&amp;hsa_net=adwords&amp;hsa_src=g&amp;hsa_tgt=kwd-2008421954774&amp;hsa_grp=165388017481&amp;hsa_mt=p&amp;hsa_cam=21249292553&amp;hsa_ver=3&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gclid=CjwKCAjwvIWzBhAlEiwAHHWgvQRFTh56gVnZ0bToQ90pPwHW467LgZHvDqXcYGyUuAcBEd4mpso_lRoCN1IQAvD_BwE\">Ollo Audio S5X<\/a> come with a nice flat response, and Dolby ATMOS capabilities \u2013 a great choice for any mix engineer.<\/p>\n<p>Ady feels that this pairing of headphones and speakers makes the mix sound &#8220;almost identical&#8221; in both contexts.<\/p>\n<p>For the interface, he uses <a href=\"https:\/\/sweetwater.sjv.io\/NkNxP2\">Audient&#8217;s Evo 16<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Crazy preamps&#8230;[and] with the auto-gain feature, I can just play a little bit and the gain will be adjusted automatically.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For additional context, Ady employs <a href=\"http:\/\/sweetwater.sjv.io\/Py7vQj\">Kali Audio&#8217;s LP-UNF<\/a> monitors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Absolutely insane&#8230;not only do I get full power in the low-end&#8230;[but] mainly I use them for the mid-range information.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He reinforces his workflow as it relates to the three speaker components:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Headphones \u2013 listening up close for pops, clicks, and artifacts<\/li>\n<li>S5Xs \u2013 reverbs and delays<\/li>\n<li>LP-UNFs \u2013 to see how the low-end translates to smaller speakers and for gut-checking mid-range.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Marvellous.<\/p>\n<h2>The Mixing Process<\/h2>\n<p>One thing that&#8217;s great about Ady is that he understands the need for the mix to reflect the emotional content and the &#8220;message&#8221; of a song.<\/p>\n<p>He explains, &#8220;This is an important part \u2013 to understand the song. What is the message of the song? How much EQ; how much compression should you use? Should it sound &#8216;big&#8217;?
