Eric had just completed his internship at Capitol Studios, where he was the first intern ever, and was eager to make his mark in the industry. His journey had begun with a unique background; he originally pursued electrical engineering after starting as a violinist. After exhausting the rigours of conservatory training, he transferred to Carnegie Mellon University, where he finished his degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. His technical skills would soon serve him well in the world of audio mastering.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Upon completing his studies, Eric found himself working under Al Schmitt, the legendary producer, engineer and mixer. He was fortunate enough to have a unique opportunity; as the first intern, he was not required to do runs, which allowed him to focus on learning the intricacies of the mastering process.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><b>Building a Career in Mastering<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">After his time at Capitol, Eric was eager to secure a permanent position in Los Angeles. Al Schmitt helped him connect with industry contacts, recommending him to various studios. Eric interviewed at several places, including The Village and The Record Plant, but ultimately landed a job with the legendary Doug Sax at The Mastering Lab.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">This was a pivotal moment in Eric&#8217;s career. He shadowed Doug Sax, learning the art of mastering while also contributing to various projects. Eric&#8217;s technical aptitude allowed him to excel quickly, and he became a vital part of the team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><b>The Transition to Ojai<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">In 2008, Doug Sax purchased a facility in Ojai, which would become the new home for The Mastering Lab. The move marked a significant change in the mastering process, as the team began to focus on vinyl cutting. Eric was instrumental in this shift, as he had developed a keen interest in the technical aspects of mastering and began to take on more responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">With the resurgence of vinyl, Eric found himself at the forefront of a new wave of interest in high-quality audio.
