Sales, marketing, QA, assembly and repair are all just steps apart, and most of the staff are musicians or engineers themselves. Units are hand assembled, burned in to ensure reliability, and overseen by repair techs with decades of soldering experience. It feels hands on and personal, and everything is proudly American made.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1573\" data-end=\"1591\"><\/h3>\n<h3 data-start=\"1573\" data-end=\"1591\">How it began<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1593\" data-end=\"2035\">Back in 1985 Apogee\u2019s first product was the\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1637\" data-end=\"1651\">944 filter<\/strong>\u00a0for early Sony and Mitsubishi digital recorders. Bob Clearmountain, fresh from mixing\u00a0<em data-start=\"1738\" data-end=\"1758\">Born in the U.S.A.<\/em>, was frustrated with the harshness of early digital. Once the filters were available, engineers insisted on \u201cApogee enhanced\u201d machines, and rental houses had to bring them in or risk losing sessions. Betty knew the technical side inside out, Bob wanted digital that felt as alive as analogue. Moving from high end systems to an affordable portable interface was a bold move, however it lined up perfectly with Apple\u2019s push around Logic and GarageBand. The Duet landed in Apple Stores, sounded fantastic, and became the go to home recording interface. The room hosted KCRW sessions with Alabama Shakes, Tom Jones, Billie Eilish and many more. Rather than rebuild at home, Bob relocated his studio into the main Apogee building in Santa Monica. The centrepiece is an SSL console, rebuilt to replace the one he lost in the fire. This was a major project led by SSL tech legend\u00a0<strong data-start=\"4073\" data-end=\"4087\">John Ellis<\/strong>and spearheaded by SSL veteran\u00a0<strong data-start=\"4119\" data-end=\"4134\">Phil Wagner<\/strong>, combining two boards, one provided by\u00a0<strong data-start=\"4174\" data-end=\"4193\">Chris Lord Alge<\/strong>, the other by his brother\u00a0<strong data-start=\"4220\" data-end=\"4237\">Tom Lord Alge<\/strong>, to recreate Bob\u2019s heavily modified desk in every detail. The result is now fully restored and installed, serving as the beating heart of his new mix room.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4397\" data-end=\"4710\">Apogee staff and Bob\u2019s team have wired the room for both stereo and Atmos, with Apogee Symphonies, vintage compressors, trusted reverbs and a beautiful courtyard outside. The new\u00a0<strong data-start=\"4576\" data-end=\"4588\">Mix This<\/strong>\u00a0carries on Bob\u2019s legacy with even more flexibility, right in the heart of the company he and Betty have built
