It was one of those days where you bounce between future-facing ideas and classic kit that still shapes the way we make records. They showed\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sweetwater.sjv.io\/aO7gGQ\"><span class=\"font-[700]\">Temperance Pro<\/span><\/a><span class=\"\">, a new reverb that uses\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-[700]\">modal responses<\/span><span class=\"\">. In plain English, you choose specific notes from the chromatic scale and the reverb rings in those notes. Want a C major seventh halo around your vocal, tucked into the ambience rather than stacked as a choir? Turn it up and the room blooms in chord tones. Turn it the other way and you can duck those notes to clear space for an instrument that needs to speak.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-main__content\" data-test-id=\"publishing-text-block\">\n<p><span class=\"\">There is a step sequencer in the Pro version, so your reverb can follow the song\u2019s chord progression. It is a production tool as much as a space maker. There is also a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/store.eventideaudio.com\/collections\/plug-ins\/products\/temperance-lite\"><span class=\"font-[700]\">Temperance Lite<\/span><span class=\"\">\u00a0that lets you try the core concept for free.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-main__content\" data-test-id=\"publishing-text-block\">\n<p><span class=\"\">Eventide also reminded us why their classics endure. The\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-[700]\">H3000<\/span><span class=\"\">\u00a0still inspires devotion and their plugins are modelled from a golden reference unit.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-[700]\">Blackhole<\/span><span class=\"\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-[700]\">MicroPitch<\/span><span class=\"\">\u00a0now have immersive algorithms, so you can detune and place offsets differently in each speaker position. He told the story of the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sweetwater.sjv.io\/Z67ajW\"><span class=\"font-[700]\">Omnipressor<\/span><\/a><span class=\"\">\u00a0across its generations. The first white-face unit did everything, however it was not exactly friendly to use. Version two improved the interface and now the latest re-release adds modern practicality like a mix control for instant parallel fun.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-main__content\" data-test-id=\"publishing-text-block\">\n<p><span class=\"\">Russell from Eventide gave a brilliant mini-masterclass on why the Omnipressor feels unique. The\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-[700]\">function<\/span><span class=\"\">\u00a0control rotates the entire input versus output curve around a fulcrum, so you get downward compression above threshold and upward compression below threshold. There is no knee at the threshold, which is why it moves through dynamics so musically. If you have ever slapped one across a mono drum mic and smiled, that is the reason.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-main__content\" data-test-id=\"publishing-text-block\">\n<p><span class=\"\">Jack Douglas once told me about flanging snares with an envelope follower on Aerosmith mixes. It can deliver the tone and punch of an Abbey Road-style compressor, yet push far beyond into creative saturation. With its wide parameter range, side-chain high-pass filter, and ability to run in\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-[700]\">\u201cout\u201d mode<\/span><span class=\"\">\u00a0for pure saturation, it is an incredibly musical tool.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"\">Their reimagined\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-[700]\">1178<\/span><span class=\"\">\u00a0is also worth attention. Once dismissed by engineers chasing its older sibling, it is finding new appreciation as a stereo bus compressor. I\u2019ve always loved these on room mics \u2014 they\u2019ve been a go-to for me for years. They make everything sound bigger, more alive, and add a kind of natural glue that just pulls the room together.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"\">And, of course, their\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-[700]\">DA-3A<\/span><span class=\"\">\u00a0is one of the most classic electric-guitar compressors ever built. When I worked at\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-[700]\">The Plant in Sausalito<\/span><span class=\"\">\u00a0recording\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"italic\">The Fray\u2019s<\/span><span class=\"\">\u00a0second album, there were DA-3As everywhere \u2014 above the console and behind us in racks. It all made sense when I heard how those compressors shaped the guitars \u2014 that bright, elastic spank you also hear all over\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"italic\">Fleetwood Mac\u2019s Rumours<\/span><span class=\"\">.
