Produced by Chris Hughes during the <em>Songs from the Big Chair<\/em> era, it is a masterclass in arrangement, harmony, and restraint. The interplay between Roland Orzabal and Kurt Smith is architectural. The bass lines are inventive. No safety net. No heavy-handed processing. Just a great song, great players, and a flagship microphone built around Austrian Audio\u2019s highly regarded <strong>CKR-12 capsule<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3 id=\"ember70\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__heading-3\">The Capsule: CKR-12 Heritage<\/h3>\n<p id=\"ember71\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">The OC-S10 is a premium vehicle for Austrian Audio\u2019s CKR-12 capsule, a modern re-engineering of the legendary CK12 design.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember72\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Instead of the original brass surround, the CKR-12 uses a <strong>ceramic surround<\/strong>, improving:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stability<\/li>\n<li>Consistency<\/li>\n<li>Manufacturing precision<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"ember74\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">However, the sonic character remains beautifully intact. Open top end. Detailed upper mids. A full, dimensional low midrange.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember75\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">On Max\u2019s vocal, I deliberately kept processing minimal. A touch of EQ. Gentle compression. A de-esser mainly because I knew I might lift some air. A bit of acoustic guitar body bleeding in.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember79\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/redirect?event=comments&amp;redir_token=QUFFLUhqbDBfSWxCTUpqZDhncXk2REhqVzBvV3FDV3JKQXxBQ3Jtc0ttQ3ktY1FLeG9qUDEwNnljcWtsN2tQZms5NlIxb3FfVmVlU2I1TTBORndKMFJuc1psTExmd2FoU1BzZTNFY2JxWWZIS3lOS1ZCVEMxbVFGYi1GNTJBaVc4NC1OTGRmY2NuOWNtcXpaaEM4V2dld1l4MA&amp;q=https%3A%2F%2Fsweetwater.sjv.io%2FQj79Mz\">OC-S10<\/a> captured that space without exaggerating it. The top end felt extended but not hyped. Sibilance was controlled naturally. The vocal sat in front of the arrangement without harshness.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember80\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">For the choruses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One lightly treated lead<\/li>\n<li>Two untreated doubles, left and right<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"ember82\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">The width came from performance, not trickery.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember83\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Even my enthusiastic gang \u201cla la la\u201d vocals were left completely untreated. No EQ. No compression.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember87\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">The OC-S10\u2019s open headbasket and generous capsule suspension allow the diaphragm to sit in a large volume of free space, reducing internal reflections and preserving transient clarity. The result was articulate, balanced acoustic tone straight to disk.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember88\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">That openness is not marketing.
