Most of us spend years learning our speakers, learning the quirks of our rooms, and understanding how mixes translate outside of the studio.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember60\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">For me, that relationship has always revolved around my beloved Genelec 1031A and Genelec 1032A monitors. You have seen them in countless videos over the years. They are familiar, dependable, and deeply ingrained in how I work.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember61\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Which is why what happened during this demonstration with IK Multimedia genuinely surprised me.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember62\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">This was not simply about <a href=\"https:\/\/sweetwater.sjv.io\/WyBK0O\">adding a subwoofer<\/a>. The goal has always been the same: flatten the room response, tighten the imaging, and create a more reliable listening environment.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember66\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">However, one thing we had not yet explored was using ARC with non-IK speakers.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember67\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">That changes with the IK Multimedia iLoud Sub.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember68\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sweetwater.sjv.io\/WyBK0O\">The iLoud Sub ships with ARC X software included<\/a>, which means you can now use IK\u2019s room calibration system with virtually any monitoring setup. In this case, we paired it with my Genelec 1031s, a speaker I know exceptionally well.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember69\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">And honestly, that made this test fascinating.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember70\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">The room itself was also about as \u201creal world\u201d as you can get. Not a perfectly symmetrical mastering suite. Not a pristine, purpose-built control room. ARC X simplifies the entire workflow dramatically. Within minutes, the system had analysed the room, aligned the speakers and subwoofer, adjusted gain discrepancies, handled crossover management, and corrected timing.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember81\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">All automatically.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"ember82\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__heading-3\">Why Time Alignment Matters So Much<\/h3>\n<p id=\"ember83\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">One of the most fascinating parts of the demonstration was seeing just how tiny differences in timing and level can dramatically affect stereo imaging.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember84\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">At one point, ARC detected only a 0.5 dB imbalance between the left and right speakers.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember85\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Half a decibel.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember86\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">That tiny discrepancy was enough to subtly shift the perceived position of instruments within the stereo field.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember87\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">This became immediately obvious when listening to sparse acoustic recordings and minimally miked drum performances. Floor toms suddenly locked into place. Vocals centred correctly. Stereo imaging became more focused and stable.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember88\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">These are the kinds of details that are incredibly difficult to diagnose manually, however once corrected, they become impossible to unhear.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"ember89\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__heading-3\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">The obvious assumption would be that adding the <a href=\"https:\/\/sweetwater.sjv.io\/WyBK0O\">iLoud Sub<\/a> simply extends the low end.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember92\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">And yes, it absolutely does.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember93\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">The Genelec 1031s are legendary monitors, however they do lack that final octave of authority compared to larger systems like the 1032s.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember94\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">What shocked me was how much more the system improved beyond bass extension.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember95\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/sweetwater.sjv.io\/WyBK0O\">sub and ARC system<\/a> together tightened the stereo image, improved vocal placement, restored low-level detail, and enhanced depth perception throughout the entire frequency spectrum.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember96\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">It genuinely felt like the 1031s had transformed into \u201c1032s plus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember97\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Even at lower monitoring levels, the system retained weight and dimensionality in a way smaller speakers often struggle to achieve.<\/p>\n<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" However with natural recordings, tiny details become incredibly obvious.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember103\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">The ARC-calibrated system allowed subtle kick drum inconsistencies, snare ring decay, and room ambience to emerge more clearly without sounding exaggerated or artificial.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember104\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">That was the key theme throughout the entire session.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember105\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Nothing sounded hyped.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember106\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Nothing sounded EQ\u2019d.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember107\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">It simply sounded more accurate.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__heading-3\">The Difference Between Correction and \u201cSounding Corrected\u201d<\/h3>\n<p id=\"ember109\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">One of the most interesting discussions we had centred around how some correction software can feel overly processed.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember110\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Many systems flatten a room so aggressively that you become aware of the correction itself. You hear boosted highs, strange midrange shaping, or an unnatural tonal presentation that no longer resembles the original speakers.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember111\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">ARC X approaches this differently.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember112\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Lorenzo explained that IK intentionally does not force the response into a mathematically perfect flat line because perfectly flat does not necessarily sound natural to human hearing.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember113\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">That philosophy became very obvious while listening.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember114\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">The speakers still sounded like Genelecs.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember115\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Just better Genelecs.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember116\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">The low end became tighter. The centre image became more focused. The width increased. delay<\/li>\n<li>Crossover frequency<\/li>\n<li>Phase alignment<\/li>\n<li>Gain matching<\/li>\n<li>Time alignment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"ember122\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">All automatically.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember123\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">However advanced users can still manually adjust crossover frequencies and delay settings to optimise performance for their specific speakers and rooms.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember124\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">This becomes particularly valuable with smaller monitors because raising the crossover frequency allows the subwoofer to handle more low-frequency information, freeing the main speakers to perform more efficiently in the midrange.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember125\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">That flexibility makes the system useful not only for professional studios, however also for home setups where monitor placement and room acoustics are often compromised.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3 id=\"ember126\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__heading-3\">Vocals Became More Three-Dimensional<\/h3>\n<p id=\"ember127\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">One of the most dramatic improvements was vocal presentation.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember128\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">On several mixes, vocals suddenly gained body, depth, and dimensionality.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember129\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">It was not simply clarity.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember130\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">It was placement.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember131\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Vocals locked into the centre of the mix with more authority and realism. Parallel compression chains, room ambience, and subtle automation moves became easier to perceive.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember132\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">At one point during the demonstration, I switched ARC off after listening with it engaged.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember133\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Immediately, everything collapsed slightly compromises.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember141\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">ARC X and the iLoud Sub are clearly designed with those realities in mind.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember142\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">The setup is fast, intuitive, and flexible enough to work with virtually any monitoring system.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember143\" class=\"ember-view
