I use a handful of really great apps to help me run my mixing business so I thought I\u2019d share a list of my favorites with you here on the blog.<\/p>\n<p>None of these will directly help you EQ a kick drum or place a vocal properly in a mix, but I\u2019m sure you\u2019ll find at least a few of them will help you get more done quickly. Enjoy!<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">1.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/justgetflux.com\/\">f.lux<\/a><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>f.lux\u2019s website describes the app as \u201csoftware to make your life better\u201d. This is exactly what it does! Here\u2019s an excerpt:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cf.lux makes your computer screen look like the room you\u2019re in, all the time. When the sun sets, it makes your computer look like your indoor lights. In the morning, it makes things look like sunlight again.<\/p>\n<p>Tell f.lux what kind of lighting you have, and where you live. Then forget about it. f.lux will do the rest, automatically.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>*I have to thank my friend Jake Antelis for the hook up on this one! Thanks, Jake!<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">2.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fiplab.com\/apps\/memory-clean-for-mac\">Memory Clean<\/a><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>If you\u2019re on a machine with less than 16GB of RAM, this app is for you! With a quick click of a button, you can free up unused memory from your computer so that your DAW and plugins have more\u00a0juice and keep you focused on being creative.<\/p>\n<p>Shout out to my friend, Joe Salyers for this one. The app I used before Memory Clean was okay, but this one is way better! Thanks, Joe!<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">3.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.slatemt.com\/products\/batch-commander\/\">Batch Commander<\/a><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>Nothing makes me happier than finishing a project with a happy client where the money was handled well and the music sounds great. Next to that, nothing makes me happier than reaching that end goal quickly and efficiently. Slate Digital\u2019s Batch Commander plays a huge role in making that happen! Try the demo and I promise you won\u2019t be disappointed.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t forget to download the mobile app! Especially if you record yourself a lot. ?<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">4.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wunderlist.com\/\">Wunderlist<\/a><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>This is my go-to app for\u00a0managing projects. From grocery lists and family goals to organizing my business and mix revisions, Wunderlist can help you keep your life in sync.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">5.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/xwavesoft.com\/extra-voice-recorder-for-iphone-ipad-mac-os-x.html\">eXtra Voice Recorder<\/a><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>I don\u2019t know about you, but I type sloppy. On top of that, I\u2019m pretty particular about grammar. #badcombination<\/p>\n<p>eXtra Voice Recorder makes it easy to record voice memos and then drag and drop them into an email response. I love answering emails this way. 1. Because it\u2019s more personal and 2. I don\u2019t have to re-read my email 100 times to make sure my spelling and grammar are in line. Lol!<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">6.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rogueamoeba.com\/nicecast\/\">Nicecast<\/a><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>Want to send out a 320 kbps quality stream directly out of your DAW? Nicecast is for you! I\u2019ll partner this app with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gotomeeting.com\/\">GoTo Meeting<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.skype.com\/en\/\">Skype<\/a> to work through mix revisions with my clients if the first couple of revisions don\u2019t do it for them. This has saved my butt more than once. It also makes the client feel warm and fuzzy to be a part of taking their baby to the finish line. #winning<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">7.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.soundizers.com\/\">Stereomonoizer<\/a><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>If you mix records (as a hobby or for a living) and you value your time, Stereomonoizer is a must have app. This beauty will automatically analyze your audio files, determine their stereo content and convert to the correct format. #nobrainer<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">8.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.grammarly.com\/\">Grammarly<\/a><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>Let\u2019s face it, not every email can be returned with a voice memo. This is where Grammarly comes in. Not only has this app helped me to send more professional emails, but I\u2019ve also learned a ton! From fixing commas and other punctuation to redundant words or phrases, Grammarly makes you a better writer. Period.<\/p>\n<p>*Don\u2019t forget to install the extension for your browser of choice. I\u2019m writing this blog post in WordPress using Google Chrome and everything I type is being analyzed by Grammarly for real-time correction suggestions. You\u2019re welcome!<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">9.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/quiztones.com\/\">Quiztones<\/a><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>Created by my good friend, Dan, Quiztones will help train your ears to identify frequencies more easily. Don\u2019t fool yourself, this is harder than it seems. Don\u2019t believe me? Give it a shot and be humbled. Lol<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">10.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.alfredapp.com\/\">Alfred<\/a><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>Noah Kagan says it best, Alfred is like Spotlight on steroids! The built-in shortcuts will save you a ridiculous amount of time.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">11.\u00a0<a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/polymail.io\/\">Polymail<\/a><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>I want to say thanks to Russ Hughes from Pro Tools Expert for turning me on to this one. Polymail is still in beta, but it is by far the best email app I have ever used. From social information about your contacts to email tracking and snoozing, this app just plain rocks.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">12.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.boastr.net\/\">Better Touch Tool<\/a><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>Thanks to my friend Bill Cammack, I can perform macros from my trackpad. In short, I have this app set up to prevent me from having to lift my right hand off of my trackpad to perform keyboard shortcuts. Things like, breaking and muting a region or deleting clips in Pro Tools can all be done with taps and swipes from my trackpad.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">13.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/telestream.net\/screenflow\/overview.htm?__c=1\">Screenflow<\/a><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>From making <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidglennrecording.com\/products\/\">tutorials and premium training courses<\/a> to private videos to help instruct my assistants, Screenflow gets the job done. No need to be a professional video editor with this app. With a couple of clicks (and hopefully not too many takes) you\u2019ll have your very own video recordings to share with the world.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">14.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecamm.com\/mac\/callrecorder\/\">Call Recorder<\/a><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>Record Skype or FaceTime calls with a click of a button. This can be great for recording a client meeting. Especially for when you forget to take notes.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">15.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/\">Dropbox<\/a><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>I know, I know! You already know about Dropbox, but I wanted to mention it just in case you weren\u2019t aware that you get 1TB for only $9.99\/month.
