Yamaha Pacifica Standard Plus

When I was a kid there was two local Musical shops, Kingfisher Music Co. in the nearest town, Fleet, to my village, Crookham Village and Anderton’s Music in Guildford. Both of them carried amazing guitars for me to drool at, Fender’s, Gibson’s, Martin’s and others, all out of my price range. However, they also had these far more affordable, exceptionally well made, beautifully playing guitars, Yamahas! Thus began my love for Yamaha guitars, Santana played one, John McGeoch played one, they looked beautiful and sounded even better!

In this video we take a look at Yamaha’s new Pacifica Standard Plus. I own a lot of Pacifica’s, they were for many years my main guitars, I have pretty much every pickup combination, Strat style, P90’s, Humbuckers neck and bridge, Bridge only….all of the above and more!

What makes this guitar stand out above the others? Well for me, as an audio engineering nerd, the fact that Yamaha has collaborated with world renowned Pro Audio industry leaders Rupert Neve Designs is huge!

Dennis Alichwer at Rupert Neve Designs had designed a transformer that Yamaha were intrigued by and they wanted to see how he developed it, so he took them to his home set up where he had created his own pickups, he sent them as a gift to the Yamaha Engineers

Yamaha and Dennis at Rupert Neve Designs then spent a long time selecting magnets and doing different winding amounts and wire gauges.

With this collaboration Yamaha and Rupert Neve Designs have brought the Pnew reflection pickups that deliver clear and articulate tones with solid lows and sparkling highs. The HSS pickup configuration combined with coil splitting capabilities results in outstanding versatility.

With it’s slim C shape neck, carved neck joint heel, beloved body and 13.8″/350 mm fingerboard radius, the Pacifica Standard Plus is exceptionally easy and comfortable to play.

We at Produce like a pro know well the quality and tone that comes from Yamahas guitars but a real question is can it METAL?

We are joined by Kristian Kohle of the Kohle Audio Kult to put this to the test along with my attempts at shredding and dive bombing to really put its Gotoh locking tuners and bridge to the test!
