Hello everybody! This year at NAMM we visited with our good friends at Lewitt and they showed us some brand new Microphones the LCT 140 AIR & LCT 040 MATCH. – They’re finally coming out!
One great thing about these microphones is that they are small diaphragm condensers but they are also really tiny and inexpensive. That being said, at their price point and size they’re still able the keep the same high-quality capsules that the more expensive ones have.
As you know I use Lewitt small diaphragm condensers on acoustic guitar and my overhead everyday! Every drum and acoustic guitar track we do has them.
So let’s try out the new ones! Our plan for todays video is to record a bit of acoustic and put them as overheads. I’ll also have David play some cymbals, strum some acoustic and we will probably put an X one on a piano as well.
What makes this episode even better is that you have a chance to win the microphones for yourself!
First things first, let’s get them out of the box!
These microphones are called the LCT 140 AIR and the LCT 040 MATCH, what’s remarkable is right about of the box is that they’re so incredibly lightweight but feel substantial at the same time.
On the side of the Microphone, there’s a switch that allows the user to choose between “AIR” and “FLAT” sound modes.
• AIR delivers an open, sparkling character
• FLAT provides a linear frequency response
Next is the middle switch which allows the user to choose Linear or 80Hz. and at the bottom it has a PAD to record high SPL instruments (-12 dB)
One thing that is really important is that the microphone doesn’t weigh half a ton! You don’t have to have a steel reinforced stand to hold it.- haha
There’s nothing more annoying than having your overhead mics slowly fall while recording a whole drum track making them out of phase. – Light is good in this respect.
