The Produce Like a Pro Academy is a very special place for me. As many of you know, I started my career with no money, no connections, very little recording gear, and I did not attend any kind of audio school. The little equipment I did have though, helped me focus my creativity. Because I did not have a lot of gear, I had to be creative, and so I spent more time focusing on my songwriting, my performances, and spent more time using my ears.
Believe it or not, by doing that, I was able to beat the odds and make a living in music. I would get hired by producers as an engineer to make records because I could come in there and do more than just engineer. I could work on guitar parts with the guitarists, on drum parts with the drummer, I could help with the songwriting, and more. It was great for me because I could gain experience, and it was good for a fledgling producer because I could make them look good by filling in the gaps.
I believe of you are in that same position that I was when I first started out. You’re focusing on improving your skills, honing your creativity, and making amazing records with what you’re given. You are making the best records you possibly can with the gear and the experience you have!
