How to make a stereo mix hit harder with Ariel Chobaz

Mixing a vocal to a 2 track can be a difficult task.  It might seem easy at first because you have just a few tracks to work with, but it presents an interesting problem.  It can be difficult to get the vocal to sit clearly in the mix, and still have the kick and snare elements have the right amount of punch and weight.

Ariel Chobaz has an amazing technique for taking an already mixed 2 track and using a resonant filter and a gate to extract the kick sound from the already mixed 2 track.  He then can use his extracted kick sound to trigger samples that he can blend back into the mix.

The end result gives the mixer a kick sound that you can be mixed into the 2 track to give it the proper balance between melodic and rhythmic elements and the vocal track.

Believe it or not, Ariel has actually done this on a major release for Nicki Minaj and Eminem! So Check out the video and please leave comments and questions! I would love to hear from you and Ariel would also be happy to answer questions you might have!

If you enjoyed this video and want to see more from Ariel, check out his course, Mixing Hip Hop with Ariel Chobaz. The course included of 4 hours of Ariel mixing a hard hitting hip hop song from the ground up!
