Today, I wanted to talk a little bit about my journey and why I started Produce Like a Pro. I have mentioned before that I started this because I saw a gap in the information about creating and recording music that was available online, and wanted to fill that gap, but that really is only a small piece of the story.
The real reason I wanted to start Produce Like a Pro is because I wanted to create a place that I would want to be a member of. I wanted somewhere where it was just about community, making music, and making people feel welcome. A place that I would have wanted to have when I was just starting out!
I grew up in a small English village, in a 600-square foot, 2-bedroom bungalow. My dad was an artist – a painter and sculptor – and was incredibly talented. We did not have a lot of money, though. My love of music began very young, as I was influenced by my dad’s love of jazz and classical music, and grew up in a very creative household. I was always listening to my grandfather’s old transistor radio. I do remember feeling a little less-than, and a little different from the other kids, though, because I may not have always had all the things they did and I was into music and art in a different way than most of them were.
I started Produce Like a Pro because I know there are millions of people out there who feel the same way. I wanted to create a place where we could all get together, no matter who we are or where we are in the world, and share our love of listening to, creating, and recording music.
Our Academy has become that place! It has grown to be so much more than a YouTube channel, and is now an online community of people who help each other, talk to each other, and create wonderful, safe place for us all to come and make music. I know I am in there all the time, in the chat function talking to people, and I love it so much!
