In today’s video we join Joe Carrell to take a look at Audioscapes new DA-3A.
As anyone in the business knows the LA-3A by Teletronics based on Optical type compression is a highly prized piece of gear that majority of serious and especially commercial studios would have at least a pair of. However the LA-3A is no longer made. Enter Audioscape with their new DA-3A.
Now as many who are familiar with the LA-3A know though the LA-3A is a single mono channel unit and most studios would usually have them in pairs so Audioscape introduces the DA-3A as a stereo unit .
As for the look of the DA-3A it stays true to the settings and look of the original compressor, it is a great looking piece of gear and feels like one too, not plastic or light.
But how does it sound? Joe takes us through a mix and puts it on female and male vocals, guitars, drums, brass and more. Through these tests Joe concludes the DA-3A stays true to the original, controlling the instruments, make their mid range punch without adding a lot of weight or low end, it lets the sources pop while sounding under control and sounding compressed.
