We’re back with our Recording Connection apprentice Alex to track some bass!
While bass is only subconsciously perceived by the average listener, it is one of the most crucial parts of any production.
It glues the song together and ties in the rhythm section with the melody and harmony parts. And it provides the groove, fullness and wonderful low end energy that we all love!
In this video, you’ll learn the key elements of capturing a great bass recording:
I’m showing you how to record bass through a DI, as well as amp cabinet, and how you can blend both signals to feature the best of both worlds: A gritty midrange that cuts through the mix combined with a full-bodied low end.
I’m also pointing out common pitfalls to avoid when recording bass and you’ll learn several mixing techniques to achieve a powerful and well-defined low end. I hope you enjoy this video!
Thank you ever so much for watching. Please leave a ton of questions and comments below and let’s have a great discussion!

That sounds great! I heard you talk about low-passing the D.I. and hi-passing the amp, but did you make a bass buss and add the Decapitator, MV2 etc. to that buss? Enquiring minds want to know. Thanks a million Warren, and dang you for getting me excited about the Acme DI again.
Haha yes indeed @plap-disqus-2e65f2f2fdaf6c699b223c61b1b5ab89:disqus the Acme Motown DI is amazing! The screen flow stopped! I’ll have to post the screen shots! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
I’ve done so much intonation tuning, truss rod adjustments and re-cutting the nut with bassists and guitarists over the years, but I’d never thought of actually tuning the instrument to support the application, or the player’s technique before…. Wonderful! Cheers Warren
