Hi Friends, I hope you are marvellously well. As musicians, engineers and producers, we are living in an amazing time: There is a lot of amazing software and equipment available, which allows us to make great of music on a budget.
I often get asked: “What DAW should I use? Do I need to switch to Pro Tools to take my music to a professional level?”
And my answer is always the same: “Use the DAW you know best and which suits your workflow!” There are a ton of amazing DAWs available, and all of them are equally great, but each of them has certain areas in which they really shine.
FL Studio: A Beginner’s Guide – with Hybrid Life
FL Studio first caught my attention when I interviewed Mick Gordon, who is an amazing guitar player and one of the top music producers for games around the globe. Mick makes incredible music using FL Studio, so I wanted to give you guys an overview of the software, so you can check out if it’s right for you.
FL Studio has a very unique workflow, which can seem tough to wrap your head around at first. But once you understand it, it allows great flexibility and creativity in your productions.
I’ve reached out to two FL Studio experts, Michael and Brad, two excellent musicians from Scotland, who run their own Youtube channel In The Mix, where they share their knowledge in countless tutorials. In this video, Michael shows us the basics us using FL Studio to produce music: From general concepts of navigating the DAW and how to use the “Channel Rack”, to setting up a mixing session and recording vocals.
I hope you enjoy this tutorial. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us Michael and Brad!
Please leave a bunch of questions for Michael and Brad below. We are looking to a lot more videos as well as a mixing competition with them soon, so look out for that!
Have a marvellous time recording and mixing,
