I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Joey Sturgis for a Skype interview and we had an amazing discussion about the modern music industry. Joey is a great guy and a forward thinker who makes the most of all opportunities. I believe we can all learn a lot from this interview, I did, it was very inspirational.
Joey tells us the story of how he started out as a music producer and mixer in a small garage he rented from a friend and went on to producing major albums for bands like Asking Alexandria, Of Mice and Men and Attila. Even with these major productions, Joey is still working on a very humble setup, staying mainly in the box.
I love his approach to making music, because it once again shows that it’s absolutely possible to make great music without lots of expensive gear and far from any of the music centres like Los Angeles, New York Nashville, etc. – Joey lives in rural Michigan!
We also go over his plugin company Joey Stugis Tones and Joey tells us the philosophy behind the company: Developing plugins that allow artist to get great results in their mixes without having to worry about all of the technical details. – Genius.
We discuss the best ways to build your career in the modern music industry and go over various ways of audio education: Audio schools, Youtube tutorials and membership sites.
If you don’t have the money to attend an audio school and are eager to learn and improve as quickly as possible, please feel free to check out either of our membership sites:
Both are wonderful communities which will help you to elevate your skills exponentially. We would love to see many of you in there!
I hope you enjoy this interview and it inspires you to keep pushing forward and pursuing your dreams!
