Mixing Bass Guitar well, so that the low end is consistent and even sounding, is crucial for achieving a balanced and professional sound in your music. The low end, by definition, is the foundation of a great mix.
For me, (even speaking as a guitarist!) Drums, Bass and of course vocals are the most integral part of a great song’s mix! Don’t get me wrong I love a great guitar riff or two!
In today’s video I mix a Bass guitar from the song ‘Bullet’ by Little Empire using only Slate Plug ins, it’s part of a course I did mixing a full song with just Slate Plug ins.

Over the years I’ve learned some very important techniques, one of which, using the DI for consistent low end, and the Amp for the personality, it is a very simple but powerful tool. Low passing the DI and High passing the Amp, both around 200hz, achieves an amazing result very well.
In this video you’ll see just how I take a very generic sounding, demo bass recorded bassline and turn it into something with personality and consistent low end that holds the song together!
You can even do this with just the DI, by duplicating it and treating one low passed element for the Low end and the high passed DI signal as an amp, even putting saturation on it or an Amp Sim.
Since I showed this technique on YouTube it’s become a very popular way of working and I enjoy all of the videos that other creators have been made subsequently!
Check out today’s video here.
Have a marvellous time recording and mixing
Many thanks
