I have a question for you: have you ever wanted to take your “home rig” with you wherever you go?
More specifically, do you find it extremely impractical to bring your amp(s) with you to a venue, or studio, only to find that you’re unable to use it – due to space-related issues, setup time, or any number of logistical limitations?
Well, our friends at IK Multimedia may have just solved this common problem (plaguing performing musicians, and nomadic engineers for years) with the Ai-powered “TONEX” amp modeling software.
And, if you would prefer a more “hands-on” method of working with your library of modeled tones (i.e. on stage) here’s also a TONEX Pedal!
Watch as Dennis Ward (bassist and producer – Ozzy Osbourne, Gus G, Vinny Moore, Magnum) walks us through the amp-modeling process, giving us an informative glance at the power of this IK Multimedia’s new technology.
Take his most recent course “The FIREWIND Mixing Ritual” here!
In the video, Dennis relates how he experienced difficulties at live engagements and sessions when dealing with sub-optimal equipment at a venue; or dealing with the issue of latency – don’t we all know this familiar problem – when running our instruments through a complicated signal chain, off of a laptop.
And so he experimented with many popular, modular solutions such as:
- VST plugins via Cubase – 20+ milliseconds of latency
- Gig Performer software – slightly better latency
- The Kemper Profiler – too physically, and using older technology
But it wasn’t helping him attain the effect he so desired.
Enter the TONEX
When the TONEX hit the market in 2022, Dennis quickly adapted it into his workflow.
Later, he was using it on a mix for a client, utilizing two computers to reconcile the amp setup and modeling capture, respectively.
The client loved the TONEX’s capturing capabilities, and commented,
“Is it possible to do this on one computer?”
Dennis figured out that the best way to achieve this was through some good old-fashioned patching, and he shares this process with us (as well as demonstrating how to capture your sounds with the TONEX) here!
This product – which provides you with endless possibilities for creating, managing, and taking your custom tones with you – is well worth it’s affordable price tag.
Check it out here if you’d like to experience it for yourself.
And as ever, have a marvellous time recording, mixing, and producing!
Many Thanks,
Warren
