As you most likely already know, we have two studios we work from. Most of the time I’m at spitfire Studios, but part of the time I’m at Harmony Studios.
Over the last few weeks, we have upgraded the whole setup at Harmony! So in today’s episode, we’re going to show you what we’ve done and we the entire install process! – You can see exactly what went into this upgrade.
I, fortunately, was away for the first part of the install because it was the Audient 8024 Console. -haha
I’ve worked on a lot of records here over the years as you know I’ve worked on the Fray, I also did Kris Allen’s first album after he won American Idol.
I worked on the radio version of The Script’s “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved”. Miley Cyrus wrote Wreaking Ball and recorded all the basics here, and of course, Adele recorded “Someone Like You” here.
Lots of Fray stuff, lots of Sara Bareilles stuff, lots of fun alright Let’s check out the studio!
The Audient ASP 8024 is absolutely gorgeous, not only is it new, it’s new-new new-new new. I just used it for the first time and it’s marvellous so thank you Audient.
We also have a pair of EVE SC307’s and these are our choice for this room, they sound absolutely fantastic in here. We’ve got the new McDSP APB16 I just demoed it for the first time!
All of our IO’s are Apollo, we have a pair of UAD Apollo X16’s allowing us to get 24 in and 24 out. Obviously this 32 in and out so we will be able to send out to multi-effects and stuff. We’ve got the full range of UA Plugins here, so when we do videos here you’ll be able to see all of that stuff too.
Our outboard is pretty comprehensive we have the Tube-Tech ME 1B & PE1C absolutely gorgeous EQ, very excited to have this both of them are gorgeous.
We have a Kemper Profiler, even though we have a live room we do have a Kemper. We have a UAD 1176 every studio should have one, a Teletronix LA-2A, a dbx160x, and a dbx 165A absolutely love this.
And better still the Tube-Tech MP1A mic pre’s these are absolutely gorgeous on piano and was used on the Adele song “Someone Like You”.
The Daking Mic Pre II belongs to Glenn Fricker who also uses the studio with us and is beautiful, Daking Mic Pre’s are amazing.
We have a Phoenix Audio DRS-8 which is what I always used to track drums through in this studio before we got the Audient console. It’s a great unit the DRS-8 is wonderful for tracking drums and the mic pre’s sound absolutely fantastic.
The Aviom AN-16/i is our headphone system and of course, at the bottom, we have the power supply for the Audient ASP console.
Quick shoutout to REVV We have the Generator 100P which I’m a big fan of also to Peavey we have their Invective 120. We have a lot of amp variations, we’re going to do a spitfire tour soon and you’ll see we have a ton of gear in there as well.
In the live room, we have a couple of pianos in there the first is an old Baldwin upright very similar to the one that is over at spitfire studios, this one is probably a little higher quality, not quite as destroyed as my Hamilton, which is a student model. This is quite an old model, we have tuning dates going back to 1967.
The main focus in the live room is the YAMAHA that “Someone Like You” was recorded on. We have many people coming here specifically to record piano on this piano, it’s rather gorgeous.
Next up we have a Yamaha drum kit which is here most the time, we can track with, we get amazing results with it.
