What makes a studio monitor one of the absolute best in its class? It unequivocally starts with expert design, in which the PMC 6-2 was developed over the course of five years as part of a complete lineup of modern, world-class speakers. In this PMC 6-2 review, we’ll uncover what makes these an innovative choice for professional monitoring applications.
The PMC 6-2 Goes Beyond What You’d Expect from Nearfield Monitors
The PMC 6-2 is an active three-way nearfield monitor. Strictly in terms of size, it’s larger than the average nearfield by a pretty significant amount, ultimately placing it somewhere in between an oversized nearfield and midfield speaker. Because of that, they’re most at home in medium- and larger-sized rooms — ultimately with the professional/commercial user in mind.
The speaker consists of two 6″ bass drivers, a 2″ midrange driver, and a 1″ tweeter. PMC housed all of this in a cabinet utilizing their proprietary Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) technology internally. ATL intelligently directs the flow of low frequency content for better extension, clarity, and balance across the entire spectrum at any volume. You’ll also notice two hexagonal vents on the front of the cabinet, which further assist in airflow dispersion to reduce unwanted coloration.
The impression of the PMC 6-2 is that this is a premium studio monitor in every aspect. It does an incredible job of retaining accuracy and clarity at every volume, from quiet to midfield levels of loudness. The speakers never strain when pushed louder. Overall, the 6-2 is a trustworthy speaker for making fast, instinctive mix moves on the fly. Additionally, it has a super wide field of dispersion that increases the size of the listening sweet spot.

Updated Drivers
PMC has consistently been known for transparent drivers. The work that went into designing the 6-2 included a bit of an overhaul of these, with the goal of improving an already great thing. The results speak for themselves.
DSP & Class-D Amplifiers
Inside, the PMC 6-2 has four amplifiers powering each of the drivers. The tweeter and midrange driver receive 400 watts a piece, and the dual low-frequency woofers each get 400 watts of their own. It’s all controlled by DSP crossovers for unrelenting accuracy.
Simple Configuration
Optimizing the 6-2s for the given space can be done using the backside LCD screen and scroll wheel to select from a number of EQ settings and configurations. However, if you connect the speakers to a network via Ethernet, you can access a wide variety of configurations using PMC’s web-based SoundAlign software. This makes configuring the monitors easy and highly customizable to ensure the best performance for the room.

Our Take: PMC 6-2 Offers Range & Versatility
The PMC 6-2s offer impressive near and midfield performance. They act as both quieter speakers for the majority of detail work, and then become reference mains at high volumes. Best of all, they manage to retain the same level of accuracy and transparency regardless of how loud you set them. These would make a fantastic addition to any midsized or larger studio.
