I love plates, particularly when I am working in a classic studio, like Sunset Sound, where they have plates in every room. Most studios of note, especially ones that have been around for decades have plates. When it comes to plates, EMT is probably the most common names. The EMT 140, for instance, came out in the late 50s.It uses an electromechanical transducer – which is very similar to the driver in a loud speaker – to create vibrations in a large plate of sheet metal. The plate’s motion is then picked up by one or more contact microphones.
Essentially, plate reverb is a very classic sound that reminds me of the incredible music of the late 60s and early 70s!
The Perfect Plate plugin offers refined control over the key aspects that determine a plate’s sound, resulting new possibilities to share and combine plate reverb styles. This plugin gives you control over 5 aspects to shape your plate sound: how quickly the plate vibrates, how long the plate vibrates, how long it takes for the plate to react to the input signal, how much space the plate takes, and how crazy the plate sounds.
With so many options, there is no way you will get anything generic out of this plugin! We are very excited to get to try this plugin out, and can’t wait to hear how it sounds!
