While at Thomann Gearhead University (TGU), we had the amazing opportunity to sit down with my good friend and amazing guitarist Pete Thorn.
A lot of people probably know Pete from his YouTube channel, but like myself, he is a music industry professional. He’s a session guitar player who also has a YouTube channel.
Pete has a beautiful guitar that I’m sure most of you reading this article already know about, but if you don’t, you can learn more at the bottom of this article. Most importantly, Pete has a new amp coming out called the “Suhr PT15 IR” that he is really excited about and we get to try out today!
Pete is an Edmonton native who at the age of 19, packed up his guitars and moved south of the Canadian border to attend Los Angeles’ famed Musician’s Institute (GIT).
After graduation, Pete joined the LA-based band called “Surreal McCoys” who signed with Sony Music Japan for the Japan and south-east Asia markets.
While Surreal McCoys didn’t last, it was Thorn’s experience working with the band’s lead singer Frank Simes that allowed Pete to make valuable connections in the US music industry and in turn, secure a US Sponsored Visa. Pete is now a dual citizen: Canadian and American.

More than just an amp.
The PT15 I.R. is the world’s first truly hybrid amplifier, marrying classic tube circuitry with a reactive load and digital impulse response technology.
With the PT15 I.R. Suhr set out to combine the strengths of both analog and digital to create something new. The addition of a built-in Reactive Load and on-board impulse responses, make using a speaker cabinet optional for recording, or feeding front of house with a studio quality mic’ed up tone. Also included is a headphone output and auxiliary input to practice and jam along with your favorite tracks, wherever you are.
The all-tube three channel design offers a plethora of American and British tones, powered by a new 6V6 driven power section. The dynamics, overdrive, saturation and harmonics that we crave as tonal purists, is all here. By adding channel assignable IRs, you now have unprecedented versatility and control over your tone, expanding your choices more than ever before.
Pete has been a Suhr artist for over 10 years and has previously partnered with Suhr to design and produce his signature PT100 amplifier and Thornbucker pickups. They debuted his signature guitar at NAMM 2017. The guitar is based on a custom spec Suhr Standard model that Pete has used extensively in the studio and on tour for the last four years. It’s equipped with Thornbucker pickups (with pickup rings, a first for Suhr) and a super comfortable and fast Even C Slim neck.
This guitar is designed to be a sleek, versatile tone machine with a stunning yet understated look that exudes class and rock and roll attitude.
